China has had solid-state batteries running in real vehicles for over a year, but the technology still hasn’t reached mass-market EVs. Automakers say high costs, manufacturing complexity, and scaling challenges are keeping solid-state cells in pilot programs despite promising real-world testing.
Solid-state batteries remain one of the EV industry’s biggest goals, but affordable, large-scale production is still the hurdle before drivers can benefit from the technology.
