Tesla says the Cybercab’s distinctive gold finish, sports-car styling, and upward-swinging doors are intentional—not just for looks. Tesla AI engineer Dhaval Shroff says the design helps pedestrians and drivers quickly recognize the vehicle as a purpose-built autonomous robotaxi rather than a conventional car with a steering wheel and pedals.
A recognizable design could help people understand and interact with autonomous vehicles more naturally as robotaxis become more common.
Tesla really said: If people are going to trust a robotaxi, they should at least know it looks futuristic.
