A leading Chinese battery expert is encouraging manufacturers to accelerate adoption of sodium-ion batteries to reduce China’s 75% reliance on imported lithium. With sodium being more abundant and less expensive to source domestically, the technology could strengthen supply chains while lowering battery production costs as performance continues to improve.

Sodium-ion batteries could diversify EV battery chemistry, ease lithium supply pressure, and make future electric vehicles more affordable.

First it was choosing between LFP and NMC… now my future EV might ask, ‘Would you like sodium with that battery?’
