Tesla has broken ground on its research fab at Giga Texas, the first step toward Terafab, a massive chip manufacturing facility planned for Grimes County, Texas. Tesla says both it and SpaceX will need more chips than current and future global production can supply, with the long-term goal of producing over 1 terawatt of compute per year.
More in-house chip production could accelerate AI, autonomous driving, Optimus, and future energy technologies.
Turns out the real range anxiety is running out of AI chips before running out of battery.
