The Green Bay Police Department has approved the purchase of two additional 2026 Tesla Model Y patrol vehicles after strong results from its first EV units. Police Chief Chris Davis said the original Model Ys have cost less than $500 per year each to operate since 2024, with windshield wipers being the only maintenance required so far.

The results highlight how lower maintenance and operating costs could make EVs increasingly attractive for public-service fleets.

Imagine telling your mechanic your biggest repair bill this year was a set of windshield wipers. That’s a very different kind of service appointment.
