Tesla just filed a patent that basically says:
“Remember when we canceled the Cybertruck range extender?
Yeah… what if we just made the extra battery a whole separate trailer you can tow around?”
The patent describes a smart auxiliary battery pack that talks to your main battery, balances energy, manages heat, and even coordinates charging at Superchargers like two friends splitting the bill.
Translation:
Your Cybertruck (or any Tesla) can now drag a little black box behind it that says “BATTERY” in big friendly letters and gives you hundreds of extra miles on demand.
Imagine the scenarios:
- Long road trip? Hook up the “Lunchbox of Range”
- Towing your boat? Double lunchbox mode activated
- You just want to flex? “Yeah bro, that’s my 800-mile trailer. No big deal.”
Meanwhile the original canceled range extender: sitting in the corner crying “I could have been inside… but nooo, they made me a trailer.”
Tesla owners in 2027: “Bro, my truck has 400 miles of range… but if I hook up the trailer I can do 900. Yes I look ridiculous. No I will not apologize.”
This is peak Tesla energy: “Why build it into the car when we can just make you tow your own extra battery like a responsible adult?”
Who’s already mentally naming their range-extender trailer “The Juice Wagon”?
