Tesla has secured the first permit in a series needed to launch its highly anticipated robotaxi service.
The California Public Utilities Commission granted Tesla a transportation charter-party carrier permit, allowing the company to own and manage a fleet of vehicles for pre-arranged trips. While this is a significant milestone, Tesla still needs additional approvals to operate fully autonomous ride-hailing services.
With plans to roll out robotaxis in California and Texas by 2025, Tesla is pushing the boundaries of innovation in autonomous driving.
