Honda is set to take a leading role in the management structure of the new company. Honda’s CEO firmly dismissed any notion that the company is coming to the aid of its struggling Japanese competitor, Nissan, as both automotive giants announced merger discussions.
“I want to make it clear that this is not a rescue operation,” Honda’s CEO, Toshihiro Mibe, stated to reporters. He emphasized that a key condition for the merger is that Nissan must complete its “turnaround” plan.
