The 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric has become bigger inside and
out. It has added better features, and its base price is $900 less than the
outgoing generation.

New EV’s are becoming quite expensive, however, this new
Kona Electric costs less. Prices start from as low as $34,010!

New Kona EV Trim Levels and Prices

Hyundai has completely redesigned the Kona Electric for 2024.
The entry-level SE trim now starts at $34,010, which is $875 less than the
previous version. The mid-tier SEL and top-spec Limited options are also
available.

The SEL starts at $38,010- a decrease of $625 from before,
while the Limited now starting at $42,380 represents a discount of $505 from
its previous version.

Reducing the prices of a newer generation vehicle model is
largely uncommon in itself but it could be related to the Kona Electric not
being eligible for the $7,500 federal tax credit!

The vehicle is not built in the U.S., thus, disqualifying it
under the Inflation Reduction Act rules. However, people interested in leasing
one can still receive that credit.

A Smaller Battery Pack has Helped Reduce Pricing of the 2024 Kona EV

Hyundai is able to reduce the starting price of its electric
crossover by equipping it with a smaller battery pack. This gave consumers an
opportunity to get behind the wheel of a new Kona EV for less money.

But it’s worth noting that higher trims that come equipped
with larger battery packs now are cheaper than ever; this may ultimately
diminish the value proposition of the base model.

So, we think that Hyundai needs to do something about this,
and ideally make its entry-level plug-in even more affordable!

The New Version also Comes with Higher Power and Range Figures!

As with the current Kona Electric, the 2024 Hyundai Kona
Electric too has a front-mounted electric motor.

The base SE model has 133 horses and a 48.6-kWh battery pack
while the uplevel SEL and Limited models have 201 horses with a larger 64.8-kWh
battery.

EPA estimates suggest these versions can travel up to an
impressive 261 miles of range on a single charge, and Hyundai says that DC
fast-charging can take their batteries from 10 to 80 percent in about 43
minutes.

The Bottom Line

While it’s a bummer that the 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric
isn’t eligible for a $7,500 federal EV tax credit since it isn’t currently
assembled in the U.S., its new prices are still very attractive.

The $34,010 starting figure is $875 less than what the
outgoing generation commanded. Meanwhile, both of the new Kona EV’s other two
trims are slightly cheaper as well- with the SEL beginning at $38,010 and the
Limited kicking off at $42,380.

Let’s see what Hyundai has in store for future generations
of the Kona EV, and if it has any plans to introduce an N-line version!
