Rivian CEO Says “Tesla Cybertruck a Lot Different from the Rivian R1T!”

The Tesla Cybertruck is set to start customer deliveries
soon after it was unveiled as a show car in 2019, and its entrance into the
market will be a pivotal moment for not just Tesla but the electric pickup
truck sector in general.

Amidst all that excitement, Rivian EV CEO RJ Scaringe has
opined that the Cybertruck won’t compete directly with his company’s R1T/R1S
models on size or capability.

Instead, he claimed that “it’s great that product like (Cybertrucks)
exist in the world,” showing no sign of rivalry between the two automakers
– surprising yet heartening news! 

Not a Lot of Overlap b/w Tesla Cybertruck and Rivian R1T

At the Code Conference 2023 on September 27, Rivian’s
founder and CEO, RJ Scaringe, had a few comments to share about Tesla Cybertruck.
He believes that there is not a lot of customers overlap between both companies
and for that reason sees competition as healthy for the EV products.

Scaringe went on to say that he thought it was “great” to
see something so different with all the fanfare around Tesla’s electric pickup
– even though it brought some rivalry within their camp since many consumers
are having trouble deciding which one they should purchase.

He also noted how far both companies have come in terms of
advancing electric truck technology to where we are today with state-of-the-art
features on offer from both cars. Overall, Scaringe believes in providing great
choice and believes this is good for moving forward in consumer adoption of EVs
overall.

CEO Scaringe Believes there’s Lot of Room in the Transportation Sector

Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe believes there is a lot of room in
the transportation sector for many different winners.

According to his recent statement, he says there is enough
opportunity for 20 to 25 viable companies in this space. He wants people to
understand that success can only come if everyone doesn’t think they need
someone else’s failure in order achieve it.

Scaringe breathlessly anticipates being among those leaders:
“We anticipate our winner-take-all strategy with fuel cell technology will
propel us into sustainable profitability as an independent public company
within 3 years, and I believe we can be one of the lead competitors coming out
on top.”

This just goes to show how confident he feels about Rivian’s
potential as well as all other leading 20 -25 tech giants that could shape up
the future transportation landscape of tomorrow.

Rivian has Already Tripled Production in Q2 2023

Rivian has already tripled production and deliveries in the
second quarter of 2023.

According to a recent report, the electric vehicle maker
produced 13,992 vehicles – including R1T pickup trucks, R1S SUVs, and Amazon
delivery vans – at its factory in Normal, Illinois. Additionally, 12,640
vehicles were delivered during this period.

The numbers are suggesting that Rivian is meeting its
expectations for expected third-quarter deliveries as production accelerates
towards their goal of producing 50,000 vehicles for 2023 calendar year. So far
they have built 23,387 vehicles and delivered 20,586 this year alone.

That’s quite impressive growth from only a few years ago
where they were just getting started with beginning operations on one product
line! We can’t wait to see what else comes out of Rivian in the future!

The Bottom Line

RJ Scaringe’s statement has made it clear that the Tesla
Cybertruck will not be a direct competitor to the Rivian R1T.

However, many buyers may consider cross-shopping the R1T
with the Cybertruck if their prices are in similar range.

With starting price of $73,000 and Quad Motor version
hitting up to $100,000 after all options attaches, Rivian managed to keep its
product close enough to available trucks while still providing extensive
capabilities.
